THE SECRET OF THE UNDERGROUND FLOWERS
The AR sculpture features a gigantic red flower, built from metaphorical remnants of society. It symbolizes the collective effort of people coming together to create a hopeful and positive change. This concept aligns with the curatorial theme, emphasizing the power of unity. It explores the idea of parallel worlds, symbolizing hope and resilience, with the flower acting as a metaphor for people’s shared ability to shape a brighter future. By constructing the flower from metaphorical recycled materials, it emphasizes sustainability and transformation.
This project blends contemporary light art, sustainability, technology, and interaction. Visitors will experience the 3D Augmented Reality artwork by scanning a QR code with their smartphones or tablets. Through their camera lens and their screen light, they can view the vibrant, monumental piece in real-time and even walk around it. The artwork is visible both day and night, providing an immersive, three-dimensional experience.
The project has been exhibited during festivals in Tbilisi Georgia in 2023, in Pristina Kosovo in 2023 and in New York City USA in 2024. You will find a real life photo's and the conceptual text below.
We may be living through times of unprecedented change, but in uncertainty lies the power to influence the future.
That’s why we decided to build underground flowers, constructed from the broken fragments of our existence.
Symbols of hope.
It is important to say what hope is not: it is not the belief that everything was, is or will be fine.
The hope we are interested in locates itself in the premises that
we don’t know what will happen and that in the spaciousness of uncertainty is room to act.
When you recognize uncertainty, you recognize that you may be able to influence the outcomes.
And that’s why we built flowers. In hidden spaces, dark basements and damaged buildings,
but ready to face the daylight.
